PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION

Thomas Edward Moran, doctorate of medical dentistry, of Grand Junction, Colo., died on the morning of Jan. 12, 2009, at his home.

He was born Jan. 23, 1942, in Butte, to Leo J. Moran and Helen Doran Moran. Tom attended Carroll College in Helena to study chemistry and political science, and received his doctorate of medical dentistry from the Univer-sity of Oregon Dental School in Portland.

Near the end of his studies, he met his future wife, Linda Jean Halvorson Moran, on a blind date. Four months later within the span of a week, he graduated, passed his dental board and they married, leaving Portland to enter the military and start a family in Anchorage, Alaska.

Tom, Linda and daughter, Barbara, moved to Grand Junction in 1971 where he began practicing dentistry. Tom loved dentistry and his patients.

Tom enjoyed spending time with his family, birding, reading, and painting. He was an active member of the Audubon Society, volunteered as a dentist at Marillac Clinic, served on the board of directors for Rocky Mountain HMO for 25 years, and was a past president and examiner for the Central Regional Dental Testing Service.

He also served on the Colorado State Board of Dental Examiners for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Barbara, and her husband, Frank; sons, Michael and Scott; mother-in-law, Maxine Baichley; brother, James Moran and his wife, Colleen; and nieces, Helen, Mary, Christine, and Katie, and nephew Brian.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Helen; his uncle, Father Edward Moran; and his sister, Eileen.

Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grand Junction, Colo., at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2009.

Sincere sympathy to your family - with special thoughts to Helen, Mary, and Christine - from your former neighbors on Copper Street.

Dear Linda & family,

We were saddened to read about Tom's sudden death in today's paper. Tom & Marc enjoyed high school together from day one! They remained close all through college. We especially enjoyed the 2 visits with him a few years ago, when Fr. Moran died, & Tom came over here to pick up PASTIES we baked for him! He & Marc recalled a lot of stories from "the old days!"

God bless you especially tomorrow at the funeral Mass.

Loving prayers,

Marc & Mary Ann Canty

I will keep Tom in my prayers. I was his sister Eileen's best friend. I lived up the street from them on Galena in Butte.

I don't remember Eileen and Tom arguing. They got along so well. I picture him as a wonderful husband and father. JoAnn aka Josie by the Moran family
