Acoma slated to reopen
Agency OKs money for rehab
By Tim Trainor - 12/04/2008
The owner of the Acoma building, 60 E. Broadway, told Urban Revitalization Agency officials Wednesday that he hopes to have the bar open in January.
Gary Dryden also said the restaurant will reopen when the economy improves. The restaurant closed in May.
The agency voted to fund four new projects — two for Dryden — at Wednesday's meeting.
$21,537 for renovation of Dryden's building at 60 E. Broadway that houses the now-closed Acoma bar and restaurant. Electrical, plumbing and insulation work will be completed with the money.
$64,724 for a second Dryden property, at 320 W. Broadway St., for electrical, plumbing, heating systems, insulation and roof replacement. Money for windows, doors and other exterior elements was withheld until Dryden's plans are accepted by historic preservation officer Chuck Carrig.
The exterior plans must be historically accurate for the project to qualify for public funding. If Dryden decides to use such materials, he can reapply to the agency for additional funds.
$1,225 to Paul Russell and Alysn Hassenforder for electrical work on the Towey Hotel, 11 N. Montana St.
$846 toward window replacement at the former Frame Galerie store, 102 W. Granite St.
All of the projects were funded at the full amount the agency can give, 25 percent of the total project cost.
