Rail yard accident claims Butte native
A 39-year-old Butte native was killed in a weekend accident at the Laurel Rail Yard near Billings.
Kenneth Hill died Saturday evening after being hit by a train while working for Montana Rail Link. Yellowstone County Coroner Bill Jones says Hill died Saturday night of injuries to his torso that were likely caused by being run over by a train, according to the Associated Press.
Montana Rail Link and the Federal Railroad Administration are investigating the accident.
MRL declined to release the details on how the accident occurred, the Associated Press reported.
Hill's stepfather, Hal Rosich, told the Montana Standard Monday that Hill was born and raised in Butte. He said Hill had been living in Billings for the past nine months and was working as a switchman for the rail yard.
Though many details about the death weren't available, Rosich said it sounded like a "freak accident." Rosich said one of the cars to a train may have come loose and rolled over Hill as he was working on one of the tracks.
Rosich said Hill graduated from Butte High School in 1988, and attended Montana Tech for a year.
Rosich described Hill as a "typical Butte kid" who everyone liked.
"He had a great love for life and a sense of humor," Rosich said. "I never knew anybody who ever met him that didn't like him."
