Area Veterans Day ceremonies set

The United Veterans Council will conduct Veterans Day ceremonies beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Stodden Park, with a call to order by council Cmdr. John Fish.

The speaker is Chad Rosendale. Todd Bartle will sing "The Star Spangled Banner" and another solo. Pete Godtland will play assembly and taps.

The Marine Corps League Southwest Detachment will lower and raise the colors. Art McCaffery will give the invocation. Kim Krueger and Pam Cote, representatives for Sens. Max Baucus and Jon Tester, respectively, will present greetings. Wade Smith will conduct the council firing squad salute. Butte-Silver Bow Chief Executive Paul Babb also will attend.

The annual American Legion Cross Country Race begins at 11:11 a.m. at Stodden Park. Registration for the 2.5- and 5-mile races is just prior to the race with chairmen Pat Kearney and Jack Whalen.

An open house follows at the American Legion Hall, 4½ Mile Vue, after the race awards. Lunch is courtesy of the United Veterans Council with the public invited. Call John Fish, 494-7509 for details.

United Veterans Council officers are John Fish, commander; Roger Knoell, first vice commander; Mary Creech, second vice commander; Gail Fish, adjutant; Marjorie Nye, chaplain; Phil Lyons, sergeant at arms; and Wade Smith, honor guard commander.

Anaconda plans vets' celebration

ANACONDA — Anaconda/Deer lodge area veterans and spouses are invited to celebrate Veterans Day with a free dinner at the Legion Hall, Third and Cedar, on Tuesday.

A social starts at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Sheridan hosts veterans' tea

SHERIDAN — Veterans and their spouses are invited to the Veterans Day Tea from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Sheridan Elementary School gym.

Hosted by the fourth grade, the event will feature coffee, tea, cinnamon rolls and a chance to visit with the students.

People planning to attend are asked to call the office at 842-5302.

Dillon coalition plans program

DILLON — The seventh White Hat Coalition Veterans Day Program starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Old Depot Theatre in Dillon.

This is a fundraising event to honor area veterans and soldiers. Music will be performed by Just Us. The guest speaker, the new

county attorney Jed Fitch, will talk about his experiences and current veteran issues.

The American Legion will perform a flag ceremony. An open mic will allow family and friends to update us on their loved ones currently serving. A bake sale is planned.
