Clarification
Candidate and state Sen. Steve Gallus, D-Butte, said he supports the so-called Jessica's Law, a sexual predator bill, and voted for it three times, contrary to his opponent's claim as published in Friday's Montana Standard.
"Because the House made changes to the bill, a free conference committee was appointed to report on the changes," Gallus said Friday. "The report of the conference committee came before the Senate, and I disagreed with what the committee was telling us. Basically, I disagreed with the changes that the House made to the good bill we passed out of the Senate. I voted against the committee report. I voted for the bill." "I support Jessica's Law — 100 percent. I voted for it. I'm on the record supporting it. I'm on the record supporting mandatory notification and tough sentences for those who prey on children." His opponent running for the Senate District 27 seat, Rob Dwyer, a Republican, said he got his information from the Montana Legislature's Web site.
