Governor appoints Butte woman Amber Wood-Jensen of Butte, vice president of operations for Management Consultants Inc., has been appointed by Gov. Brian Schweitzer to the state's Tourism Advisory Council.
Wood-Jensen oversees operations at six hotels throughout Montana — including the Best Western Butte Plaza Inn and Hampton Inn of Butte, Missoula's Best Western Grant Creek Inn, Best Western War Bonnet Inn of Miles City and the Lone Tree Inn and Richland Motor Inn of Sidney.
As part of the 14-member council, which is comprised of tourism professionals from around the state, she'll work to provide guidance to Travel Montana, the state's Tourism Promotions Division, in fulfilling their mission.
Wood-Jensen, a graduate of Montana State University, is the former general manager of the Best Western Butte Plaza Inn. She is president of Butte's Convention and Visitor Bureau.
Weight Watchers helps food bank The directors of the Butte Emergency Food Bank announced that they have joined the Weight Watchers "Lose for Good" campaign.
For every pound of weight lost by members from Sept. 7 through Oct. 18, Weight Watchers will donate the equivalent of a pound of food, valued up to $1 million, to benefit people around the world, according to a news release.
In an effort to help on the local front, a voluntary contribution by members to donate food to equal weight loss has started. This is a way of visualizing weight loss and contributing at the same time to those in need.

Animal Hospital earns accreditation Amherst Animal Hospital, 2330 Amherst Ave., has again received accreditation following a comprehensive evaluation by the American Animal Hospital Association.
The evaluation includes a quality assessment review of the facility, medical equipment, practice methods and pet health care management.
Only 15 percent of all small animal veterinary practices in the U.S. have achieved accreditation by the association, according to a news release.
In order to maintain accredited status, Amherst Animal Hospital must continue to be evaluated regularly by the association's consultants.
New art gallery opens in VC VIRGINIA CITY — Housed within one of Virginia City's most recognized landmarks, the Creighton Block Gallery has opened its doors showcasing some of Montana's most famous artisans and craftsmen's work.
Colin Mathews is the gallery's owner.
Creighton Block Gallery is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and other days by appointment. To schedule an appointment, contact Mathews at 843-5234.
Hospital officials voted into offices Steve Hannah, chief executive officer, Barrett Hospital and HealthCare in Dillon, has been voted secretary/treasurer for Montana Healthcare Association for the upcoming year.
Nondi Harrington, executive director, Barrett Hospital Foundation, was voted vice president of Montana Health Care Communications and Development Association for the upcoming year.
People named to boards HELENA — Gov. Brian Schweitzer has appointed area people to various boards and councils. They are: Public Defender Commission
Jennifer Hensley, Butte. Qualification: member of organization advocating on behalf of people with mental illness and developmental disabilities. Hensley is a consultant and graduate of the University of Montana. Hensley has experience in both public and private sector legal services.
University Local Executive Boards
UM-Montana Tech: Doug Peoples, Butte. Peoples works for Town Pump Inc., and previously was in project development for Basin Creek Power Services, along with work for various utility and energy enterprises. He has a degree in business administration from Carroll College.
UM-Western: Gen. James Womack, Dillon. Womack served as Montana's adjutant general 1973-1981. Previously, he was a teacher and school superintendent in Dillon. Womack attended then-Western Montana College and received an education degree from that college following his service in World War II.
Homebuyers' class in Anaconda ANACONDA — A homebuyers' education class runs 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at 118 E. Seventh, Anaconda. Cost is $20 per person.
It's sponsored by Headwaters RC&D and Anaconda Local Development Corp.
Participants will learn about special affordable home financing options including down payment and closing cost assistance programs for eligible first-time homebuyers.
