By The Associated Press - 10/06/2008
HARDIN (AP) — A fourth-grade teacher from Hardin has been named teacher of the year by the National Indian Education Association.
Montana's super- intendent of schools, Linda McCulloch, says Roxanne Small Not Afraid will be recognized for her achievements and service to American Indian education on Oct. 25 at the association's 39th annual convention in Seattle.
Small Not Afraid teaches at Hardin Intermediate School and was nominated for the award by district Superintendent Al Peterson.
The National Indian Education Association says its award-winners must demonstrate exceptional achievement or performance in providing quality instruction to American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian students.
Staff members at Hardin Intermediate say Small Not Afraid maintains a positive attitude while bringing out the maximum potential in her students.
