Response to multiple letters in one fell swoop

Letter to the Editor

By The Montana Standard Staff - 09/15/2008

I'd like Dan Walsh (Sept. 5 letter) to give us one example of (liberal) bias in The Montana Standard. In fact, there has been very little honest hard-nose reporting going on for years. If there were, the lies that led to war and the schemes of this rogue administration would be headlines every day. Since many media outlets are owned by the ultra-cons, places like the "fair and balanced" network, for example, can brainwash us to believe that a liberal media still exists.

Robert Geach (Aug. 29 letter) writes that "appalling ignorance" keeps us from "drill, drill, drilling" our way out of our energy crisis. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what we have been doing the past 100 years? If this effort is not accompanied by a long-term strategic plan of conservation and renewable fuels, then what's the point?

Steve Kujawa (Sept. 2 letter) would have us believe that the "global warming scare" is the effort of "environmental pagans" to enforce upon us all, God forbid, cleaner air and water. One thing for sure, the air and water is not what it was back in the time, as he notes, of the Vikings. With the high cancer rates in our area, one would think Kujawa would be more concerned.

Ron Fick (Sept. 2 letter) would have us believe that the Democrats are after your guns. Unbelievable! How would that ever happen anyway, since we are the ones with the guns? The reality is the Constitution that protects our right to bear arms has been thoroughly trashed by Bush and the boys. In fact, we may be needing those guns to protect us from the totalitarian government they have become and continue to promote.

Rick Barkell (Aug. 20 letter) blames the Democratic House for the high price of oil after only being in power 20 months. Sounds like he has been brainwashed by Rush Limbaugh. Canada and Norway have enough oil to be totally self-sufficient; yet they pay higher prices at the pump than we do. Prices are determined in the global commodities market and the supply is totally controlled by big oil cartels. This country can drill its fanny off and it wouldn't affect the price at the pump at all.

Then there is the concern about higher taxes. How does everyone out there who supported the Iraq War propose that we pay for it? China owns our debt. Are you patriotic enough to foot the bill?
