Polaris woman making steady progress
Coming home for Sunday fundraiser
By Nick Gevock - 09/05/2008
A Polaris woman seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in June is regaining her memory and will be coming to Butte for the first time since the accident to attend a fundraiser for her.
Dee Brothers has been in rehabili-tation and is making slow but steady progress, her mother Janie Brothers said Thursday in a telephone interview. Brothers suffered head injury, a broken leg and spinal injuries in a June 30 motorcycle accident in which she was the passenger near Polaris.
"She's actually doing quite well," Janie Brothers told The Montana Standard.
She said her daughter has regained her memory slowly over the past two months. She has undergone numerous surgeries and will have several more to repair her right leg and fractures in her neck.
Brothers has more surgery planned this week before returning to long-term rehabilitation. But before that she will be coming home to Butte for the weekend to attend a benefit for her and see friends.
The benefit to help defray Dee Brothers' medical bills will be held from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Helsinki, 402 E. Broadway, Butte. The event will include live music, a raffle and an auction, Janie Brothers said. For details or to buy raffle tickets, call Teri Bartle at 498-4959.
Janie Brothers said she's been overwhelmed by the friends who have pitched in and given encouragement. She added that Dee will be happy to see her friends, but is also looking forward to something else.
"She said the best part is she's going to see all of her clothes," Janie Brother's said. "They're going to be like new clothes to her again." Reporter Nick Gevock may be reached at nick.gevock@mtstandard.com.
