What’s the local buzz online?
By The Standard Staff - 07/19/2008
People are talking, under stories at www.mtstandard.com and on the Butte Rats Web log. Here’s a sample. Go online to join the conversation:
On the shooting in Twin Bridges: “It is well known around the community that these young men had been harassing this 64-year-old man for years. This harassment should have been taken care of long ago and then none of this would have happened. I am very sorry Morgan was injured in this way; however, what was he doing there at 2 a.m. harassing this man?” — twincitizen
On drug testing in Butte schools: “The schools are saying they’re having a hard time with the rising cost of heating and the decline in enrollment, so explain to me where they always come up with the extra money to do other things, like drug testing.” — mtntamer
On the Obama cartoon: “It was brilliant! Taking irrational fear and making it ridiculous. Too bad the joke gets lost on those it’s actually aimed at, but then again, it’s generally the narrow-minded who have no sense of humor.” — dgsma
On moving the folk festival to the Flat: “It would be like having a festival in New Orleans in a nondescript suburban glut & ignoring the French Quarter & Bourbon Street. Or having a national event in New York City in the Bronx and not in Manhattan.” — CJR
On the swimming pool future: “Butte needs an outdoor swimming pool where the kids can learn to swim in the summer time for a reasonable fee. ... I am not opposed to a splash park, but it’s just a frill; let’s get a real pool first. And maintain it properly this time.” — Mary “A water park is a great idea, but it shouldn’t be put on public land, or use public funds, or waste any more of our commissioners’ time with your dreams. Turn the non-profit lobbying farce into a for-profit venture, get some investors, and go out and make your dream a reality.” — Tri-pleX
On Jesse Laslovich’s residency: “I question why the Republican candidate did not challenge Laslovich on the legality of his residency before the primary, when another Democrat could have been selected to run. Of course, after the primary, you cannot substitute another Democrat to run in the General Election. At least we know that Laslovich represented Deer Lodge and Granite counties very well.
We also know the Republican candidate will look out for conservative interests in Granite County only.” — Lorraine
