Letter: Motorized sports burn plenty of energy, too

By Jason O’Keefe - 04/16/2008

You know some people are never happy. Take this Glovan character for instance, calling us motorized folks lazy (front-page story on Beaverhead-Deerlodge Forest plan, Sunday, April 13).

I burn more energy and get a better total workout on my motorized bike in one afternoon than he would if he hiked all the way across the state. Closing down more access is not the solution; it’s just going to create a bottleneck, confining more people to a smaller area.

It’s just the beginning. Let them have their way now, and it’s just going to continue until eventually we lazy people have nothing left. Take for instance the folks in the Bozeman area with their closures which sparked a huge increase in motorized travel in the Pipestone area about which I’m not complaining. You have to go somewhere.

Now maybe there’s more worthwhile quiet recreation over there.

Keep what’s open for us and open up more for you energetic types.

So, Ron, maybe you should take a hike.
