By The Standard Staff - 09/25/2007
The National Science Foundation has awarded Montana Tech a three-year grant for $750,000 through the Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research.
The grant will support three programs at Tech.
Xiaobing Zhou, Martha Apple and Curtis Link will work with fellow researchers from the University of Montana-Missoula on an effort to develop a scientific understanding of the evolution of large river ecosystems, according to a news release.
Amy Verlanic will continue her program to develop competitive research by students in grades 5-12 by providing technical and financial support to rural schools.
Finally, the science foundation will continue its support of Tech’s Undergraduate Research Program, directed by Courtney Young.
Joe Figueira, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs and research, said the new award supports “new research directions on the campus and continues support for programs which introduce grade school, high school and college undergraduate students to the nation’s research enterprise.”
