On the Books By The Standard Staff - 07/28/2007On the Books Butte district court Frank Ramey Jr., 49, homeless, was sentenced Thursday to two years with the Montana Department of Corrections for failing to register as a violent offender. He was arrested in November at the Butte Rescue Mission.Dane Peters, 19, 511 Caledonia St., was given a two-year deferred sentence Thursday for his role in a burglary and threat of a Butte resident in January. Peters entered a residence with another man in the 600 block of south Wyoming Street and threatened the occupants. Peters then damaged the rear windows of three vehicles parked outside, according to court papers. A deferred sentence means he won’t have to spend time in jail as long as he stays out of trouble. He pleaded guilty in May to a felony charge of aggravated burglary and a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief.Justice Court Josh Vires was charged with felony theft Friday in connection with copper wire stolen from a Butte business. Vires, 27, 3135 St. Ann, is accused of taking the wire from Summit Asphalt Tuesday morning. He was in jail Friday on $5,000 bond.Butte police reports A Kalispell man was arrested after allegedly spitting on a police officer during the Evel Knievel Days celebration early Friday.Scotty J. Cassel, 20, was charged with assault with bodily fluid and disorderly conduct after police said he spit on an officer’s leg in the 100 block of West Broadway just after midnight. Cassel claimed it was an accident, however, police believe it was intentional, according to the report.Cassel was also cited with being in possession of alcohol while under the age of 21. He was in jail on Friday morning on $1,210 bond. Cole Newman Mannix, 23, of Helmville was charged with disorderly conduct after police say he climbed on top of the “Ball of Steel” about 11:30 p.m. Thursday. Police said once on top, Mannix waved a flag.The 16-foot steel globe, at Broadway and Wyoming, and in Butte for Evel Knievel Days, is used by a team of motorcycle riders to perform stunts. An unattended case of beer was just too tempting for a 17-year-old male Wednesday about 11:30 p.m. He is accused of stealing the beer, which was being used to prop open the door of the Town Pump, 2711 Harrison Ave., convenience store. The clerk had walked to back of the store for a moment, police said. Upon returning, the clerk noticed teens running with the beer. Police found three teenagers parked in a nearby car and one admitted to taking the beer, according to the report. The boy was cited for misdemeanor theft and minor in possession.A turbo kit for a vehicle valued at about $800 was reported missing from an unlocked garage on the 2000 block of Porter Avenue Wednesday afternoon.A 17-year-old male told police a man and woman claiming to work for a bail bonds company came to his residence in the 400 block of north Alabama Street about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, and said they were revoking his bond and taking him into custody. He told police they handcuffed him, but set him free once he convinced them he was the wrong person. Sheriff John Walsh said police haven’t determined the identify of the two people.Anaconda district court Kandi A. Castro, 406 Ash, no age available, pleaded guilty to felony forgery by common scheme Wednesday.Court records said Castro admitted writing checks on her deceased father’s account, and signing his name instead of hers, on 74 occasions between October 2006 and Jan. 31. As part of plea agreement, the county attorney’s office dismissed a charge of misdemeanor theft. The county attorney is recommending a three-year deferred sentence to the state Department of Corrections, as well as fines and fees. Sentencing will take place later. Paul Michael Tizio, 28, 717 E. Front St., was charged Wednesday with two crimes after an alleged drive-by shooting involving a pellet gun. He was charged with felony criminal endangerment and misdemeanor criminal mischief.Court records said that on July 17 at 10:20 p.m. residents sitting on a porch saw Tizio lean out of a red truck and fire a hand gun multiple times at a parked red Suburban in Anaconda. The gun was either an automatic pellet gun or a BB gun, records said. The shots shattered the Suburban’s driver’s side window and damaged the door. Tizio is in jail on $25,000 bond. |
