Asbestos removal next at IC school
Asbestos must be removed from the old Immaculate Conception School before the building can be demolished.
The Butte-Silver Bow Health Department is contracting with Ingraham Environmental Inc. of Butte to remove asbestos tiles from inside the building and from the soffits. The materials will be buried at the county landfill.
Once asbestos is removed in the coming weeks, Smith Contracting will demolish the building at 1136 Caledonia St. Smith won the contract after submitting a low bid of $63,360. The company signed a contract this week with the city-county.
“Hopefully, by the middle of July we should see a marked improvement up there and that building should be coming down,” said Dan Powers of the health department.
The county plans to sell the six lots, roughly a half acre, where the school is located and put the money back into reserves.
