Staples, NCAT to be recognized for August electronics recycling event
By The Standard Staff - 11/02/2006
Certificates of appreciation will be given to Staples, the National Center for Appropriate Technology and others on Thursday for helping to organize a computer and electronics recycling in August.
The certificates, from the Department of Environmental Quality, will presented in conjunction with an event in which Staples will give two checks for $2,080 each to Butte Central and Butte public schools.
The presentations occur at noon at Staples, 3636 Harrison Ave.
The recycling event, which was organized by DEQ and NCAT and held at the Butte Staples store, raised over $4,000 for local schools.
The event collected over nine tons of computer and other electronic waste equipment, including whole computer units, monitors, DVD players and TVs, which will be recycled instead of sending potentially toxic materials to the local landfill.
