For $10, they’ll take away your old computer

By The Standard Staff - 08/20/2006

The first-ever computer recycling event is Thursday in Butte, sponsored by Staples, the National Center for Appropriate Technology and the Montana Department of Environmental Quality.

Residents and businesses are invited to take part.

By making a $10 donation, participants can have their unwanted computer monitors, central processing units, televisions and printers recycled at the Butte Staples store, 3636 Harrison Ave., 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Donations will go to a number of local schools. Donors will receive a Staples coupon good for $10 off a purchase of $40 or more. Recycled items are limited to 10 per person or business.

Co-sponsor NCAT will help coordinate and staff the event, which will be held on the day of its free sustainability festival, Thursday, Aug. 24, from noon to 8 p.m. at its Butte headquarters, 3040 Continental Drive. The event celebrates NCAT’s 30th anniversary.

Businesses with more than 10 electronic units can contact NCAT to negotiate recycling options. Call 494-8649 or 494-8635 for details.
