Poker challenge slated in Anaconda Saturday
By Vera Haffey - 01/26/2006
ANACONDA — The second annual Texas Hold ’Em Charity Poker Challenge set for Saturday at Anaconda’s Legion Hall will benefit a trio of causes: Legion baseball, critically ill children and courthouse restoration.
The casino night at 322 E. Third St. begins with late registration and seating at 3:30 p.m., and games starting at 5 p.m. It will last a regulation six hours, according to organizer Cheryl McKinley of Anaconda, who secured permitting for the event.
A live auction will highlight the evening, featuring passes on the Copper King Express train and golf offers from the Old Works and Anaconda Country Club courses.
More than 60 raffle prizes will be given away, including certificates for car washes and oil changes.
“We’re hoping we can give everybody one or two prizes, depending on how many players sign up,” McKinley said.
Last year, 37 players participated, she said. The games generated around $10,000 that was split three ways after the payouts, she said. By Thursday this week, around 40 people had registered.
First prize payout for tournament players is $2,500, based on a sign-up of 200 players.
The entry fee is a $100 donation buy-in, with $50 re-buy in donations allowed until 7 p.m. Players must be at least 18. A no-host bar will serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and dinner will be available for players, McKinley said.
For registration information, call 563-5225.
