Dogs attack Butte man; search on for animals

By The Standard Staff - 01/05/2006

Authorities are looking for a pack of dogs that attacked an adult male in Butte around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Robert McKay reported that four dogs attacked him at Grand and Hayes streets. He was one block from his house at the time.

The dogs knocked McKay to the ground and drew blood after biting him in the leg, he said. He rolled away from them, got up and was able to kick them away, he said. McKay did not seek medical attention.

However, he told The Standard that he was worried the dogs might attack defenseless neighborhood children.

Animal control officer Dave Hinch responded to the incident and failed to locate the dogs by Wednesday afternoon.

“We are out there trying to find them,” he said. “We will have men out there tonight also.” Hinch said the pack included one Rottweiler, two Labradors and one dog of a mixed breed.

He noted the dogs may have been protecting a female dog in heat. Dogs usually don’t roam around Butte in packs, Hinch added.

Anyone who has seen the dog pack may call animal control at 497-6565.
