Services: The non-profit organization provides a variety of community-based services for families and children. Youth who have been identified with serious mental health challenges (severe emotional disturbances) and children, birth to age 6, who have serious difficulties managing their emotions and behavior are eligible for services. Because A.W.A.R.E. promotes a “wrap-around” philosophy, services are strength-based, family focused, individualized, and comprehensive. Services in the Butte community include: Youth case management, family support services, school-based mental health services, therapeuticfoster care , intensive therapeutic group home services.

Services: The national organization operates 22 Shriners Hospitals committed to the treatment of orthopedic, burn and scar problems. These include treatment of curvature of the spine, brittle bone disease, hand problems, back problems, limb deficiencies, spina bifida, club foot and dislocated hip, leg length discrepancies, Legg Perthes disease, rickets, spinal column injuries and maxillofacial work. The hospitals do not accept state or federal funds. All services rendered at the hospital are at no cost to the family. The Northern California Shriners Hospital in Sacramento now provides services which formerly were only available in more distant locations.
Needs: Monetary donations for transportation costs, and information on children who need help.

Programs include health and fitness programs; youth sports; after school programs and clubs, swimming lessons, swim team, life guarding, water exercise, and adaptive swim programs; Spice of Life and active older adult classes and programs; cardiac and vascular rehab programs, health and fitness evaluations and individual fitness programs.
Needs: Volunteers in all program areas, especially youth sports referees and coaches and tutors for the After School Tutoring program. Memberships help support the programs provided for youth and those less able to afford them. Memorials, endowments, bequests and other financial gifts are always greatly appreciated.

Description of services: Consumer Credit Counseling Services helps individuals gain control of their own finances. It is accredited by the National Foundation for Consumer Credit and its counselors are certified. One-on-one counseling assesses the financial situation then offers budgeting and other ideas to resolve the individual’s problems. If necessary, a Debt Management Plan helps the consumer pay back debts more effectively. There is a small fee for this service. Generally, monthly payments to creditors are reduced. Most credit card companies, and some other creditors, will give interest and fee concessions. The service provides free classes to the public, social services, businesses, schools, clubs, associations and groups. Topics include budgeting, using credit wisely, establishing good credit, scams and surviving a layoff. Education and counseling services are free.

Description of services: Promotion of education: — Scholarships are awarded each year to students in Montana post-secondary education. The American history essay contest is held annually for fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students in area schools with monetary prizes to the top winner in each grade. The Good Citizen contest is held for seniors in area high schools. Genealogy workshops are offered to the public.
Historic preservation: — Cemeteries in five western Montana counties have been inventoried with the collected information deposited in the Butte-Silver Bow Archives and available there to the public. Inventories in other counties are continuing. The Spanish American War memorial is fully restored. The monument at Nissler that commemorates the first discovery of gold there will be restored as work continues on Silver Bow Creek. In the Spring of 2006 a historic marker will be placed at the residence at 832 West Park Street, Butte as the home of the first Silver Bow Chapter Regent and the location of the first Montana State Society DAR conference in 1904.
All types of historic records are forwarded to the DAR Library in Washington, D.C., for its permanent collection and are available to the public.
Patriotic endeavor: — Constitution Week is celebrated in September each year various patriotic holidays are celebrated with programs. Teacher-members also present patriotic materials to their students, when appropriate.
Needs: Greater support from the community and media is needed. Donations are not solicited, but, any donations received are tax deductible and are used for the above projects. Donors may specify the use to which their donations should go.

Description of services: Family Outreach is a private nonprofit agency providing home-based education and support services to individuals who have disabilities or developmental delays.
The main focus of the program is to teach families and friends how to teach skills to children and adults with special needs. In addition, families and friends often request education regarding the disability and information about resources and services available.
Staff work to ensure that children and adults in the program have the same opportunities that all Montanans have in education, the community, friendships and in life. The program offers many services from which a family may choose to meet its needs. Families and individuals assist in the development of their own program based on what they want to learn.
Family Outreach serves 12 counties with offices in Butte, Bozeman and Helena.
Needs: funding to expand the lending library, which includes books, educational toys and adaptive equipment.

Purpose: build simple, decent housing in partnership with low income families that is sold to the partner family with no interest or profit. Families meet three selection criteria: willingness to partner by investing 500 sweat equity hours in the project, ability to meet income limits and repay the mortgage loan, and an unmet need for housing.
Volunteers from sponsor teams and local people of faith join with Habitat owner-builders to complete high performance homes that are a key part of the neighborhood redevelopment plan underway in the high schools area of Central Butte. Operated by committees made up of volunteers, Habitat selects the families in need, and builds a new home to suit the household size and make-up. Often, family members have a permanent disability, and are very low income. Home payments are related to income level, and are typically under $260 per month.
Habitat has served 15 families in Butte and three in Dillon, with one home currently under construction,and a new partnership to assist homeowners needing help with exterior repairs and upgrades. Donations are tax deductible and 10 percent of unrestricted donations are tithed to affiliates in Haiti.
Needs: Habitat is seeking sponsorships from area businesses, churches and civic groups to help provide homes for three families impacted by deaths in the family, disability and illness, with a number of children affected.

Description of services: Provides financial help to low-income eligible households with primary sources of fuel such as natural gas, electricity, fuel oil, propane, wood and coal.
To apply a household must present a recent fuel bill and written verification on gross income of members 16 and up for the last 12 months. Tenants whose utilities are included in their rent may apply for reimbursement. Rent receipts are required. Payments go directly to the energy supplier.
Services are available for eligible households in Butte-Silver Bow, Anaconda-Deer Lodge, Powell, Granite, Madison and Beaverhead counties from Oct. 1 through April 30 each year.

Description of services: Montana Developmental Center is the state center for developmentally disabled citizens who require intensive services. Residents look forward to Christmas with great anticipation. The center relies on donated funds and items to meet the multitude of needs and desires. Monetary donations are used to shop for individual needs and to purchase gifts for Christmas and throughout the year. Nearly new or gently used items go to the General Store where residents shop free of charge. Items needed range from everyday necessities, clothing and hygiene products to recreation items such as sporting goods and arts/crafts equipment to edible treats.
Items should arrive by Dec 20. Donors should include their name and address so the center can acknowledge the gift and send a receipt for tax purposes. For details or pick up in Butte call Deb Bishop at 225-4482 or 782-4867.

Description of services: to collect, preserve and maintain Montana’s law enforcement history and maintain a permanent remembrance and memorial dedicated to all law officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty in Montana.
