Artist reception set in Dillon DILLON — A reception for West Yellowstone artist Kristy-Luhrsen Davenport will be Friday, Aug. 5 from from 5-8 p.m. at The Drift Gallery For Contemporary Art., 12 South Idaho St. in Dillon.

Davenport will be exhibiting a collection of paintings and drawings titled ‘Kristy's Family' from Aug. 1 through Sept. 30.

Davenport is a 1998 graduate from the University of Montana — Western. The reception is free. Gallery hours are 12 - 5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday.

For details, call 683-3456 Grandmas take to the stage DILLON— On Saturday, July 30, at 7 p.m. the place to be is Old Depot Theatre for Dillon's own ‘Montana Grammy's.

It is a show created by grannys, directed by grannys and performed by grannys.

What is your favorite memory of your grandmother? Join us at the Old Depot Theatre while we create some new memories for you.

This will be a fun evening of song, dance and laughter.

Tickets are $5 and refreshments will be provided at break time. There is a bake sale in conjunction with the show.

Super summer kids camp offered SHERIDAN — New Beginaings Christian Fellowship in Sheridan will be hosting its 3rd Annual Super Summer Kids Camp Aug. 15-19.

The theme this year is "The J Force — Discovering the Ultimate Truth." There will be a preschool class for 3 year olds from 8 a.m.-noon with Kelly Crippen teaching.

Pastor Kevin Boggs and the mission's team from Missoula Christian Life Center will be leading the first- through sixth-graders camp; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Breakfast, lunch and a snack will be provided.

The children will participate in worship, bible lessons, arts and crafts and games.

Veterans parade seeks participants DILLON — The National Guard, White Hat Coalition and theAmerican Legion are putting together a parade to help kick off the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Corps of Discovery celebration.

The parade will honor veterans from the founding of America to the present. The parade starts at the Kiwanis Veterans Memorial Park 11 a.m. and proceeding south on the new Montana Street, west on Reeder, south on Argenta to the Beaverhead County Fairgrounds.

The Corps of Discovery celebration will be held Aug. 5, noon to 8 p.m., Aug. 6-8, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free. For more details, call the Chamber of Commerce at 683-5511.

Equine care topic of seminar DILLON — Rocky Mountain Supply will host an inaugural equine day on Saturday, July 30.

Activities will begin at 8:30 and last all day.

West Nile virus and vaccinations, equine nutrition, dquine denistry, hoof care, shoeing tips and diseases will be covered by guest speakers.

Owen Brown will conduct lifetime inspections from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Lunch will be availble and door prizes will be offered.

Library seeks catapult builders WHITEHALL — On Wednesday, July 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Whitehall Community Library, summer readers will be making small catapults and then using them to hurl grapes at a target to see how just how far we can project small objects.

Teens are invited to enter the catapult building contest, entries due Aug. 5 at the library by 1 p.m.

Catapults should be a foot or less tall and use projectiles that won't hurt anyone such as grapes or small balls of paper.

At 1 p.m. the catapults will be tested to see how far the object can be projected. First prize is $20, second $10 and third is $5.

Donna Worth Jefferson County Library System., Whitehall Country singer and poet performs at state park BANNACK — Singer, songwriter and poet Val Prophet will appear at Bannack, Saturday, July 20 starting at 7 p.m. in the old church.

Prophet will be performing his original songs and poetry. Inspired by his life experiences and by people he has know, Prophet has been writing country songs and poems for more than 50 years, but has only been performing publicly for about a year.

Prophet, a recent Bannack resident and miner, has lived in Beaverhead County most of his life and taught art at the Dillon Middle School for 30 years.

Prophet accompanied by long time friend and musician Jerry Burtts.

Saturday programs are scheduled through Labor Day and offer an incredible variety of educational programs and entertainment. Lecture and demonstration programs are offered at 2 p.m. and the entertainment programs are scheduled for 7 p.m. Park hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Labor Day. Live music in Virginia City VIRGINIA CITY — Enjoy a night of exquisite dining and jazz in historic Virginia City. For the fourth year running, the Jeni Fleming Trio will be in concert at Banditos, Friday, July 29. Call Banditos for reservations/information - (406) 843-5556.

Also, Papa Mali, a swamp funk band traveling from Austin, Texas, will be playing at Banditos on Wednesday, July 27. Papa Show starts at 10 p.m. and there is a $5 cover.

Also, hailing from Portland, Ore., Richmond Fontaine will be performing live at Banditos on Friday, Aug. 5.

Fontaine plays a mix of rock, country, punkand folk music.
